Pre-Register to Vote

You can pre-register to vote by mail or in person.

Pre-registration ends 20 days before each regularly scheduled Primary or General Election. Voter Registration Applications must be received by the Elections Office or by one of our agencies by 5:00 p.m. of the date of the deadline.

Voter Registration Applications must contain original signatures and cannot be faxed.

If you are registering by mail for the first time in Minnesota, you may need to bring identification to the polling place on Election Day.

Newly registered voters will receive a postcard from the election office telling them where they vote on Election Day.

Register in Person

Voter registration forms are available at city hall, county courthouses, and other public buildings throughout the state. Visit one of the following locations to fill out a voter registration application:

  • In the left hand column you can check the box at question 3 to request that your license or identification declare your consent to be an organ and tissue donor.
  • In the lower right hand corner you can check the box labeled “Voter Registration Card” to register to vote with the same form.
  • Registrar's office or student association at your college, university and technical school
