Electrical Permits

Electrical permits are issued by the State of Minnesota, Department of Labor and Industry, Electrical Division. For more information call (651) 284-5064 or go to http://www.dli.mn.gov/CCLD/ElectricalHomeownerForms.asp

Inspection of electrical work is performed by State of Minnesota Electrical Inspectors. You should contact your inspector directly to arrange for an inspection. http://www.dli.mn.gov/CCLD/PDF/eli_electrical_districts_dec2006.pdf

Licensing Requirements

Permits for electrical work are issued to electrical contractors who hold a valid electrical contractor’s license issued by the Minnesota State Board of Electricity. Tradespersons working for them must also hold an individual electrician’s license.

To get a contractor’s license, the person who applies must either hold a Class A or Class B Master Electrician’s License or employ someone who does.
