The new I-35W Bridge

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) chose Flatiron-Manson to build a new Interstate 35W Bridge. Construction began in November 2007, and is expected to continue until the end of 2008.

Construction updates

Flatiron-Manson has weekly sidewalk talks where the public can get the latest information on construction. Officials from the company and MnDOT will gather in front of Grandma’s Saloon (1810 Washington Ave. S, in the “Seven Corners” area) at 11 a.m every Saturday. From there, the group will lead attendees to the 10th Avenue Bridge to look at and explain current construction and answer any questions people may have. Everyone is welcome to attend, and no RSVPs are needed.

Bridge project hotline

Flatiron has also established a bridge project hotline to handle questions from the public. The number is (612) 236-6901.

The City’s vision for a new bridge

Through the Project Review process, the Minneapolis City Council and Mayor R.T. Rybak approved a resolution that granted approval of MnDOT’s layout for a new I-35W Bridge. State law required MnDOT to seek Project Review from Minneapolis for the new bridge, and the City used the opportunity to successfully advocate for a bridge that will serve the needs of the entire region well into the future.

More on Project Review…

Before approving Project Review, the Mayor and Council approved a set of principles that outlined the City’s shared vision for building a new bridge. This vision reflects the Mayor’s and Council’s firm commitment to ensuring our state builds a safe bridge as expeditiously as is reasonable, but most importantly, that it’s done right and with an eye toward the future transportation needs of the people of Minneapolis and all of Minnesota.
