Minneapolis Rebuilds:
The Interstate 35W Bridge

The Minnesota Department of Transportation’s contractor – Flatiron-Manson - has now begun construction of a new Interstate 35W Bridge over the Mississippi River. Plans call for this project to be completed by the end of 2008. The City of Minneapolis is closely watching the progress, and is making sure the interests of residents, business owners and the entire metropolitan community and beyond are heard.

The City of Minneapolis recognizes that I-35W is a crucial transportation artery for the state and that the new bridge will serve our metro area and beyond for the next 100 years. We want to make sure our state builds a safe bridge as expeditiously as is reasonable, but most importantly, that we do it right and with an eye toward the future transportation needs of the people of Minneapolis and all of Minnesota.

Minneapolis Responds: the collapse

In the hours, days and months following the collapse of the I-35W Bridge, an outpouring of support came from people throughout the Twin Cities, the nation and the world. The City of Minneapolis thanks those people and organizations and extends its gratitude to everyone who have had a hand in helping us begin to recover from this tragedy.
