Between 1980 and 2000, the population in the city increased by 3.1 percent while the population in Kenny fell 14.4 percent.

The population decline in Kenny was spread among children, adults and senior residents. The last group decreased less than the others because the oldest residents in that group – those 85 and over – actually doubled their numbers. There were 23 more in 2000 than in 1980.

The ethnic makeup of Kenny changed between 1980 and 2000. Although the neighborhood’s white population makes up the majority of the people, it decreased while other ethnic groups’ populations grew. The white population, which accounted for 97 percent of the neighborhood’s residents in 1980, decreased by 714 people to 93 percent in 2000. In 1980 all other ethnic groups combined were 130 people, and by 2000 they had increased to 248 people. Still, the growth was not enough to balance the loss in the white population.
